Cervical screening

Cervical screening is also known as a ‘smear’ test. The actual test only takes a couple of minutes and is the best protection against cervical cancer. Our practice nurse will put you at ease and answer any questions you may have about the test.

Cervical screening tests help save 5,000 lives a year in the UK.  Regular screening prevents 8 out of 10 cancers from developing so it’s important that you book in with us for a cervical screening test every time you are invited.

Women aged 25 – 49 are invited for cervical screening every 3 years and women aged 50 – 64 are invited every 5 years.

If and when you are due a cervical smear, our practice will send out a letter to your home address with full details of how to book an appointment. Our practice might also send you a text message to invite you for a cervical smear appointment if you have a mobile number on our records. Our friendly reception team will offer you the nearest appointment available with our practice nurse.

If you have any other queries in relation to cervical screening please call our reception on 0151 902 0030.
